Kanakasundari Rural Municipality of Jumla is providing Rs 50 per day as lunch expenses to the teachers. Since last June, teachers have been given 50 rupees for lunch expenses. Village Chairman Damodar Prasad Acharya informed that lunch expenses have been arranged for teachers, office assistants and employees in the school.

According to him, administrative allowance has also been arranged for the principal of every school. 500 rupees at the secondary level, 250 rupees at the basic level and 200 rupees at the primary level have been provided for administrative expenses.

There are 27 schools in Kanakasundari. There are 433 teaching staff. They are all getting lunch expenses. 27 principals are receiving administrative expenses. Village Chairman Acharya said that lunch expenses have been arranged to keep the morale of teachers high.

'Unless quality education can be provided, we cannot move forward by producing skilled manpower,' he said. According to him, the municipality has managed the cost of lunch after intensive study at the school level.

School is monitored frequently to maintain quality. During the first phase of monitoring, it was found that the teachers were also facing problems, so the municipality paid for lunch. "Before, there was a problem of teachers not going to school, not even teaching for 45 minutes. We gave parent education in every settlement. We made arrangements for lunch expenses for the teachers,' said Jeevan Rokaya, who works in the education branch, 'now there is a lot of improvement compared to before.'

7 teachers were under surveillance during the monitoring. After calling them to the municipality and asking for an explanation, they are now regular. Earlier, attendance at school was very low when there was a holiday. Currently, teachers cannot take leave unless the principal approves the leave.

Kanakasundari has made a 10-year education strategy plan. This year, 75 percent of the 25 lakh rupees allocated in the education sector has been spent on capacity development training. Smartboards have been installed in 7 schools. The municipality has appointed 7 IT teachers. At present, 100% of the children of Kanakasundari have access to school. The schools have stated that there is regular attendance in the school.

The former president of Kanakasundari Mavi, Dipendra Prasad Upadhyay, said that the allowance given as an incentive is working well. He said, "Teachers are only getting salary." There is no other facility. But the municipality has honored the teachers by paying for lunch.'
