The number of endangered snow leopards is increasing in Humla. A study conducted from 2022 to 2023 shows that the number of rare snow leopards is increasing. According to the study, there are at least 39 snow leopards in North Namkha Rural Municipality.

In coordination with the Division Forest Office, Ukali and Tertiary Dhubra Conservation used camera trapping technology to study snow leopards.

Snow leopard researcher Rinjin Phunjok Lama said that the endangered snow leopard was found in Namkha . According to him, 61 cameras were used for the study of snow leopards. In which 39 snow leopards have been captured. 

This study was the first to be conducted outside a protected area . It is also the first to extract the number of snow leopards in Humla. "Earlier, it was said that there are snow leopards, but I didn't think that they were found in such a large number," said Lama, a snow leopard researcher. Now the work of further study will proceed .'

Now the snow leopard habitat, food and conservation issues are being discussed with locals and stakeholders. The challenges seen in snow leopard conservation are also being studied,' Lama said, 'Now the emphasis will be on increasing the number of snow leopards and protecting the habitat.'

researcher Lama Roylex Arvad is the winner. He started the study of leopards in Humla with 26 million rupees as an award. The study started from January 2078. "Earlier, there was no program about snow leopards due to lack of funds," he said, "now an action plan has been made in coordination with the central, state and local governments and in consultation with national and international donors." There is also a commitment of all for the protection of the snow leopard's food and habitat. After reaching Limi after walking for five days from Simikot, the headquarter of Humla, the horse carries food on a mule and reaches the place where snow leopards are found. 

The government has prioritized the counting and conservation of snow leopards from 2024 to 2030. Lama said that it is hoped that the study conducted using camera trapping will advance the snow leopard conservation campaign more effectively.

Lama says that this study has directly contributed to the snow leopard census campaign in collaboration with National Parks and Wildlife Department, Forest and Soil Conservation Department and national and international organizations.

Prem Bahadur Lama, Chairman of Namkha Rural Municipality, said that the task of bringing snow leopard data has been completed . He said, "Other than the number of snow leopards, other works have not arrived". After receiving all the studies, the government will proceed with an action plan for the snow leopard conservation campaign. There are 6 wards in Namkha. Snow leopards are found in Patans of all the wards.
