There has been a fire in three community forests namely Chandeshwari, Pateshwari and Bhubaneshwari around Sharda Municipality-11 Khairabang of the district for three consecutive days. The fire started from Pateshwari Community Forest and reached Bhubaneswari Community Forest through Chandeswari.
About 10 hectares of forest has been destroyed due to the fire, and despite the efforts of local consumers, the fire has not been brought under control due to the wind and the steep area. Kafli and nearby settlements are at risk due to the fire.
Bhubaneswari Community Forest Chairman Raju Nepali said that it is not yet known how the fire started in the community forest and the fire has spread from the Pateshwari Community Forest. He informed that even though all the members of the community forest were deployed, the storm could not be extinguished because it was in a steep area. He said that although the fire in the forest could not be controlled, the vulnerable settlements were saved and fire lines were drawn so that no more settlements would be affected.
