Employees working in Chingad rural municipality of Surkhet have started collective vegetable cultivation. They are in government service during office hours and are engaged in farming in the morning and evening. Employees have started collective vegetable farming by renting land.

The new enterprise started by them has not only created employment in the village, but also increased the income. The employees engaged in vegetable farming are not local here, they have come here from different parts of the country for government service. But they are all undertaking this venture together.

Last May, some office staff were worried about wasting their time after office by gossiping . Apart from the office work, time was being wasted gossiping in the tea square. There was also a discussion among them that there was no investment in agriculture . One day it came to a point - not only did the farmers not do it, but we were also wasting our free time in a fruitless way.

In the beginning, they thought of cultivating vegetables . They discussed on the 15th of Baisakh and started the work within a few days . They told everyone in the office about the first round of discussions. In the initial stage, 13 people started together . Later, 2 people were added and 15 employees were added to this business . Initially, they rented 80 ropanis of land, now they have taken 200 ropanis more.

They are cultivating non-seasonal and seasonal vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, beans, and greens. First they took land in Ward No. 5 for the second time in Ward No. Took land on 4 . Land rent is paid annually to the locals. 15 employees have already invested 3 million in the business .

Khadk Bahadur Chandal, an assistant level fifth employee of the municipality, who is involved in vegetable farming, said that 20 million was spent in the beginning and 10 million was added in the second phase. All employees are in the vegetable farm before and after office work. They do all the work themselves as long as they have time.

Employees who have time will start vegetable farming . They ask the locals for help for the rest of the work. Locals work as wage laborers. Locals have also got employment in the village due to the employees cultivating vegetables .

Locals work as daily wage workers . 2 employees are local monthly. 10/12 to 20 people daily based on other requirements. The vegetable they planted has started selling  Vegetables worth more than 2 million have gone to the market. Chand said that the expenses and income so far are almost equal.

According to him, the second phase is just being worked on. He said that now he is only cultivating potatoes. At the hot market in Birendranagar, they reach the garden to buy vegetables from the markets. They reach the markets of Chhinchu, Jahare, Lekbensi to buy vegetables. Vegetables also go to Kohalpur, Nepalgunj along with Harre.

Employees are also employed for selling vegetables. They have called the vegetable traders to take the vegetables they have produced.

Employee Chand said that they are working with this plan to discourage the tendency of talking about agriculture but not doing it. "The main objective is for the farmers of the village to learn," he said. It is necessary to do commercial farming. They say that they are also working to change the mindset that only farmers do

farming, and that farming people are weak. He said that employees cannot always stay in one place, so no matter where they go, they do not leave the farm. There are also some local friends. Someone will be here . Who is working in the municipality. He is the one to take care of it," he said.

The employees have also grown 10 padas for fertilizer in vegetable farming . After the employees started cultivating vegetables commercially, the locals have also been attracted towards commercial farming . They now have the idea that we should do it too.

The municipality is also working on the construction of pocket areas in each ward. They have been cultivating vegetables by forming an agricultural group in the ward. They are also farming by opening collective and individual firms . In Chingad only 2/3 percent are in other areas . All others depend on agriculture. The municipality is also a municipality with high potential for agriculture and animal husbandry.

Roshan Kumar Yadav, head of the agriculture branch, said that the municipality is also working in agriculture. According to him, the municipality has established a nursery at the municipal level. He said that there is a plan to graft walnut seedlings and sell them cheaply to the farmers. It is said that lemons, onions, cauliflowers, etc. were also distributed.

He said that mini tillers have been distributed to the farmers as per demand with 50 percent subsidy. He said, "We have also brought walnut grafted seedlings from Jumla and distributed them to the farmers." We have also brought 1800 kiwi plants from Bagmati and distributed them.

Sher Bahadur Rana, an employee involved in vegetable farming, said that there is a change in the perception that there is nothing to do with agriculture after cultivating vegetables. He said, "There was no tradition of selling vegetables in the village." What money will come from selling vegetables? Now this thinking has changed.

Now the locals have also started cultivating vegetables, he said. He said that the farmers have been coordinated to reach the market. According to him, the vegetables produced by the locals are also being sold. He said that they have registered the farm and cultivated vegetables.
