It is important to use the pen only on factual matters: Chief Minister Kandel

The Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Yamlal Kandel, has said that journalists should use their pen to get excited about facts.

At the inauguration of the three-day training organized by Karnali Federation of Nepal Journalists for women journalists of the province, he suggested that the program brought by the provincial government for journalists should be utilized.

Targeting the mass media bill of Karnali province, he said that the bill itself is becoming controversial when attention is paid to status and structure rather than rights. He said, 'The provincial government does not disagree for the rights. The aim is to make facilities and structures economical.'

President of Nepal Journalist Federation Nirmala Sharma said that it is the responsibility of the local and state government to sustain the media in Karnali, so there is a need to make a policy and work. She emphasized that the provincial government should work to enhance the capacity of journalists and strengthen the financial condition of media houses. She said that the provincial government should focus on ending the compulsion of journalists to go to Kathmandu for renovation work. Sita Wali, president of the

media group Karnali, said that women journalists should be supported by the relevant agencies for a safe environment, equal pay and work. She held the view that the government should give priority to media houses run by women journalists.

A three-day training for women journalists on gender sensitivity in professional and responsible journalism has started from Friday in Birendranagar.

President of Journalist Federation Karnali Bishnu Sharma said that this training was organized because it is a challenge for all journalists but there are more women. He said that the federation is working to develop the capacity of journalists.
