Farmers are excited after honey processing has started in the district

The Small Farmers Agricultural Co-operative Society at the headquarters in Khalanga has established a honey processing industry for the first time.

Since there is no industry in the district for honey processing, the industry has been established for the convenience of the farmers. According to Yogmasha Karki, the president of the cooperative, after the operation of the industry at the headquarters, the honey producing farmers of the district have become comfortable.

She said, 'In order to easily market the products of the farmers and bring uniformity in the price of honey.' taken.  President Karki said that labeling and packaging of honey have been started in the

industry. It is believed that the industry will help in the marketing of the products as well as creating jobs for local women.

co-operative has been providing training to beekeeper farmers in the distribution of equipment including hives, mahdani and artificial beehives in coordination and collaboration with the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project, Helvetas Nepal.

The industry, which is currently selling honey at Rs 1,200 per kg, has processed and sold 12 quintals of honey since last November. Navinraj Acharya, information officer of Agriculture Development Office Jajarkot, said that Jajarkot is considered a good area for honey production.

About 110 metric tons of honey has been produced in this district in the current year 2081/82. Information officer Acharya said that Chiuri, which is considered excellent for bee grazing, is found in abundance in Jajarkot forests. According to him, now about 500 farmers are involved in commercial honey production from 16,000 hives.

District's Nalgad, Kushe, Barekot and Headquarter Bheri Municipalities have a large amount of Chiuri forests, so the farmers of this area have been involved in the beekeeping profession for a long time. It is believed that after the establishment of honey processing industry in the

district, it will be easier for both producers and farmers. Man Bahadur Rana, chairman of the beekeeping farmers' group of Bheri Municipality-1, Pipe, Jamire, said that the establishment of the processing industry has made them comfortable.

Earlier, the farmers were demanding the establishment of a processing center saying that the traders were arbitrarily selling honey by mixing sugar. In the situation where sugar is added to the honey that is being sold in the market and because of that, a negative message is being sent about the honey of the district, now since the industry has started processing, quality honey has started to go to the market.
