The Karnali state government has prepared to issue a contract for the reconstruction of schools and health institutions that were damaged by the earthquake that hit Ramidanda of Barekot Rural Municipality of Jajarkot on 17th October last. The details of 62 schools and 18 health institutions in Karnali that need to be reconstructed have already been collected. A total of 18 helipads will also be constructed.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning has allocated 500 million rupees for the construction of school buildings and health institutions in the current financial year. For the reconstruction of school buildings and health institutions, 25 million rupees were allocated in Jajarkot, 22 million rupees in Rukum West and 3 million rupees in Salyan.
Minister of Economic Affairs and Planning of Karnali Province Rajeev Vikram Shah said that 22 schools and 11 health posts will be constructed in Jajarkot, 27 schools and five health posts in Rukum West, two schools and three health posts in Salyan. He said that the schools and health institutions were selected based on the recommendations of the district coordination committee of the earthquake affected districts. He said, "The tender process has already started in Jajarkot for the construction of selected schools and health institutions." He said that the contract is also being prepared in Rukum West and Salyan.
The provincial government has prepared to build a four-room school building and a three-room health post. With the permission of the federal government, the construction of schools, health institutions and public buildings has started in the affected areas. According to Kali Bahadur Khatri, Head of Coordination of District Coordination Committee, Jajarkot, about 300 school buildings were damaged due to the earthquake, but schools were selected only on the basis of priority.
