Birds from different countries have started coming to Raratal to escape the cold. During the winter season, exotic birds such as Kumkut, Butterflies, Little Krit, Toptake, Grit, Messenger, Khoya ducks come to Rara from Europe, China, Siberia, India and other countries.
Those birds return to Siberia, Europe, Mongolia, Mansarovar and other areas after about 5 months with the start of summer. After the migration of foreign birds, Rara Kshetra has become Gulzar and the beauty of Rara Tal has increased. This year, for the first time, a common morian bird has arrived from Siberia.
About 15 species of birds out of 49 that come to Rara Valley every year have arrived, said Dharamjit Saud, information officer of Rara National Park. "Now Raratal has become a birdlife," he said, "Even in winter, the lake's water is warm and there is enough food, so the attraction of foreign birds has increased." Last year, 25 species of birds came to Rara. "Tourists are happy to see the sight of jumping birds playing in the snow," Information Officer Saud said.
The senior conservation officer of the park, Mahesh Neupane, said that waterfowl have started flocking to the small rivers mixed with the lake in search of food. According to him, the visiting birds used to reach Murma, Jhayari, Mati Tum, Talcha and other settlements in search of food. He said that after the beginning of the month of November, the new sounds of different types of birds from the lake to the forest area can be heard and observed directly.
Although the number of tourists in Rara has decreased due to the cold, the number of guest birds is increasing, said Deepak Rawat, manager of Hutu Village Heritage Resort. Last year, a 3-member expert team deployed by the Nepal Bird Conservation Association conducted research on migratory birds in Rara. In that research, 104 species of birds were found in Rara.
