The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, said that the EU has adopted a policy of including people with disabilities in all its activities.

Inaugurating the workshop on disability inclusive network organized on the occasion of the 33rd International Day of Disability in Surkhet on Tuesday, she said that she has been working in the field of climate adaptation, disability inclusion and dignified menstrual management through the Suswa project. Ambassador Veronique pointed out that the respect of people with disabilities and their livelihood is important.

She mentioned that the EU is emphasizing the effective implementation of the policies made by all three levels of government to address the issue of disability.

Finland embassy's special advisor Dr. Pallabaraj Nepal said that they are following the Nepal government's policy on the inclusion of disabled people.

Suswa project field specialist Paulina Meskus said that in Karnali province, activities such as development of disability-friendly structures, participation of disabled people, and capacity building have been conducted in Karnali Province.  In the

workshop, Padmaraj Devkota, Senior Divisional Engineer (CDI) of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Karnali Province, opined that the development of one village, not one stream, one house, one stream has made it easier for people with disabilities. He said that the campaign to build disability-friendly offices and toilets in Karnali is underway.

Mina Khadka Thapa, the vice president of Dailekh's Bhagwatimai village, informed that the participation of people with disabilities in municipal level programs has increased and they have been prioritized in relief and rehabilitation work.

Bishnu Prasad Sharma, president of the National Federation of Disabled Persons, Kanali Province, expressed the opinion that it would help in the inclusion of people with disabilities if they are considered members of their family. "The disability inclusion policy should be applied in every field, people with disabilities have a psychology of seeing problems," he said. People with disabilities participating in the

workshop complained that the monitoring committee formed according to the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 did not include organizations or individuals working on disability, and did not pay attention to drug treatment, identification of needs and distribution of relief.

Stakeholders said that gender equality and social inclusion policy, drinking water, sanitation and hygiene policy, procedures related to the distribution of disability ID cards, decent menstruation management procedures and other policies should be considered as achievements.  In the

workshop, people with disabilities from all 10 districts of Karnali province, local people's representatives and stakeholders participated.
