A three-month dengue awareness campaign has started from today. According to the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene, under the campaign, a 'Clean Friday, Clean Friday' program will be launched every week to search and destroy mosquito breeding grounds and habitats in all public bodies, offices, schools and community organizations.

In the months of Shrawan, Bhadra and Asoj, a 'Mosquito Breeding and Habitat Search and Destroy Campaign' will be launched with the participation of the community on one day every week in coordination with the ward offices, tol development organizations, civil society and concerned bodies.

Each local level will have to regularly monitor auto workshops/garages, garbage management sites, under-construction buildings and other places with the possibility of stagnant water within its jurisdiction and drain and manage stagnant water.

With the aim of bringing about a change in behavior related to dengue, a 'Sathi Education Program' and a 'School Cleaning Campaign' will be launched through schools and educational institutions, while a school health inspection team will be formed to monitor the state of sanitation regularly.

Dr. Gokarna Dahal, Head of the Insect Disease Control Section of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, said that dengue awareness campaign is being conducted in these three months as the infection of dengue will gradually increase from Shrawan, reach a high level in Bhadra, and its risk will remain until Asoj/Kartik.

He informed that the cleanliness campaign will be conducted by focusing on hotels, garages, garbage management places, schools, government offices and other public places where dengue is more at risk. 'If information can be disseminated to the citizen level, dengue can be controlled, and if we ourselves make efforts from home, the infection can be reduced,' he said.

In 2022, the number of dengue infected people in Nepal was 56,000. The division stated that this number has decreased to 52,000 in 2023, 46,000 in 2024, and 8,000 in 2025. 'Initially, dengue infections were high. However, with everyone's efforts including dissemination of information and awareness at the citizen level, it is decreasing every year,' he said.

As per the decision of the Ministry of Health, a 'Three-month Dengue Awareness Campaign: Shrawan, Bhadau and Asoj' has been being conducted nationwide since the fiscal year 2082/83. The campaign has increased public awareness regarding dengue prevention and control and has had a positive impact on reducing dengue infections through active community participation, according to the ministry.

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has urged all local levels, through a circular, to conduct a three-month campaign in coordination and collaboration with ward offices, health institutions, educational institutions, community organizations and representatives of concerned bodies to prevent and control dengue disease.
