The government is set to launch a 'Mental Health Awareness Campaign' from Wednesday.
The National Health Education, Information and Communication Center informed at a press conference on Tuesday that it will run a three-month campaign from Wednesday to Falgun 30.
Center Director Dr. Radhika Thapaliya said that the campaign is being run with the aim of spreading mental health awareness. She said that tension has increased in all classes after the 'Gen-G' demonstration and said that the campaign will play a positive role in it, even if it is small.
Director Dr. Thapaliya said, 'Recently, tension has increased in all classes. Therefore, we are starting the campaign with the aim of making a positive contribution to mental health. Let us all talk openly about mental health. Let us benefit from the campaign.'
Center Senior Public Health Administrator Upendra Dhungana said that the campaign was launched with the aim of raising public awareness of mental health as an integral part of overall health and informed that awareness programs will be held on different topics every month.
World Health Organization psychiatrist Dr. Kedar Marhatta said that mental health should be discussed openly. He said that one in 10 people in Nepal will have a mental health problem, and considered it a serious challenge to public health.
