Achieving a historic achievement in the field of public health, Nepal has been officially declared a rubella-free country. Today, at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Health and Population, representatives of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) handed over the rubella eradication certificate to the Minister of Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel.
Along with this, Nepal has become the sixth country in the South East Asia region of the World Health Organization to prevent rubella. The World Health Organization succeeded in eliminating rubella disease in Nepal on August 2, 2082.
Minister Paudel said that this announcement is a matter of great pride for all Nepalis. He called for continuous efforts to sustain this achievement and work towards the eradication of other vaccine-preventable diseases to ensure a healthy future for the children of Nepal.
He said, 'This is the result of the unwavering dedication of our health workers, women community health volunteers and the active participation of ordinary citizens. Nepal has become the sixth country in the South-East Asia region to achieve this achievement.
Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Bikas Devkota said that Nepal has achieved an important achievement by eradicating rubella in 2025 and said that the next goal is to eradicate measles. 'Measles spreads very quickly. If we can eliminate it by strengthening its monitoring system, the same system will become an example for the control of other diseases,' he said.
Director of Family Welfare Division Dr. Vivek Kumar Lal gave detailed information that this success was achieved after decades of continuous efforts. He said that this announcement is an important milestone for Nepal's national vaccination program and said that the government has given vaccination program a high priority.
World Health Organization representative for Nepal Dr. Rajesh Sambhajirao Pandav congratulated the Nepalese government and partners and said that this is a proud moment for Nepal and an important contribution to regional and global health. He emphasized that the success was possible through continuous high vaccination, strong surveillance system and quick response to outbreaks.
