The government is going to integrate the social health security program run by various agencies under the government and run it through the health insurance board.

In the policy and program of the fiscal year 2082/83, it has been announced that the Social Security Fund under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the Social Security Fund under the Ministry of Finance and the Social Health Security Program will be integrated and operated through the Insurance Board. According to the Insurance Board, 21 billion rupees of the state is double spent every year on the social health security program alone.

According to insurance expert Dr. Suresh Tiwari, although the insurance programs included in the policy and program are not new, the plan to integrate the scattered social health security programs is ambitious. Basic and essential medicines will not be distributed through the insurance system. Since the constitution provides for free basic health services, arrangements should be made for free distribution of these medicines through basic hospitals at the local level, he said.
