It is necessary to reduce the maternal and child mortality rate to zero.

Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel said that we should continue to move forward with the goal of reducing the maternal and child mortality rate to zero in Nepal.

He said that Nepal has succeeded significantly in reducing the maternal and infant mortality rate and said that in the upcoming budget, the government will allocate the budget in such a way as to prioritize obstetric care.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the Maternal and Newborn Simulation Lab of Charity Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, he said, 'The effectiveness of this lab must be maintained in the long term. Such labs should now be expanded to all provinces.'  This lab has been put into operation at the Kupandol branch of the hospital.

The simulation lab built with the support of One Heart Worldwide will be used to improve the knowledge and clinical skills of maternal and newborn healthcare providers.

Hariprasad Mainali, secretary of the Ministry of Health, said that attention should be paid to increasing the efficiency and operation of the lab. He said, 'There is also a challenge of manpower. Starting a lab is a big thing, but running it continuously is a bigger thing.'

Hospital Director Dr. Sri Prasad Adhikari said that this laboratory will facilitate the practice of medical methods for maternal and child health service providers. He said, 'It is expected that this laboratory will help to learn and teach medical skills and to develop skills in new skills and perform highly skilled work.'
