Jhapa has become the district with the largest number of participants (insured) in the health insurance program conducted by the Nepal government under social security.
Coordinator of Health Insurance Board Liaison Office Jhapa Lakshmi Kandel said that seven lakh 62 thousand 686 people are insured in Jhapa. According to the Health Insurance Board, there are 8,967,790 insured people across the country. After Jhapa, Morang (second), Sunsari (third) and Chitwan (fourth) are among the most insured districts.
6 lakh 1 thousand 429 people are insured in Morang, 5 lakh 75 thousand 695 people in Sunsari and 5 lakh 65 thousand 7 hundred 10 people in Chitwan.
She informed that 69.67 percent of the total population in Jhapa is affiliated to the health insurance program. In the district with 15 municipalities, Damak Municipality has the highest number of insured people, while the lowest number is in Jhapa Rural Municipality.
Coordinator Kandel informed that one lakh 11 thousand 80 people i.e. one hundred and three percent of the population are insured in Damak. She said that since Bhutanese refugees and house renters are insured, Damak is more insured than the population of the city.
In Jhapa Rural Municipality, which is the least insured, 14,974 people are participating in the health insurance program. Compared to the population here, the number of insured is only 38 percent.
Similarly, 49 thousand seven hundred and 69 people have been insured in Arjundhara Municipality, 55 thousand 83 in Bhadrapur, 20 thousand three hundred and 27 in Bahradashi Rural Municipality, 81 thousand nine hundred and 49 in Virtamod, 38 thousand six hundred and 47 in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality and 46 thousand nine hundred and 31 people in Gauradah Municipality.
19 thousand 410 in Gaurigunj rural municipality, 25 thousand nine in Haldibari, 26 thousand 267 in Kachankaval rural municipality, 48 thousand 312 in Kamal rural municipality, 41 thousand 911 in Kankai municipality, 78 zar 652 in Mechinagar, 57 thousand 409 in Shivasatakshi, district coordinator Kandel informed.
She said that the number of renewals is also increasing as the people's interest in health insurance services in the district is increasing. She said that many citizens in the target group are insured. The insured is receiving services from 14 primary service provider organizations of the district including Provincial Hospital Bhadrapur. He says that the referred insured is getting services from Windsi in Virtamod, Kankai Hospital, Omsai Pathibhara in Bhadrapur, Nims in Damak, Amda and Damak Hospital. The insured is receiving services under the health insurance program from five eye hospitals in Jhapa.
She said that there is a lack of necessary coordination with the municipalities and health service provider organizations due to the lack of staff according to the posts in the office.
