It has been revealed that 57-year-old Bardhi Bahadur Bohara, who was found dead a week ago in Lamjung, was murdered by his own friend with the intention of looting his gold. The District Police Office, Lamjung, held a press conference on Wednesday and said that 30-year-old Bijay Lamichhane of Dordi Rural Municipality-1, Dhoke, Lamjung, has been arrested on charges of involvement in the incident. Police said that initial investigation revealed that he murdered his friend Bohara, who was a permanent resident of Bohara Besi, Besi Municipality-2 and currently lives in Tamang Tole, Besi Sahar-8. According to the police, Bohara's body was found in the Bhirpani Community Forest above Akashedanda, Besi Sahar-1 on the morning of Asad 25. He had been missing since the morning of Asad 21.

Police have also arrested 43-year-old Deepak Bishwakarma, who runs a gold and silver shop in Parbatipur, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-21, Chitwan, for killing Lamichhane and selling the gold chain and ring stolen from him after the murder. According to the police, it has been revealed that Lamichhane and Bishwakarma, who also live in Parbatipur, are known to each other.

District Police Chief DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet said that Lamichhane and Bishwakarma were arrested on Tuesday and that the district court extended their remand for 5 days on Wednesday and further investigation and action has been taken against both of them. Police Inspector Gyanendra Bahadur Chhetri, Investigation Officer of the District Police Office, said that investigation has been initiated against both of them in cases of murder and theft. Lamichhane was taken into custody the day before the body was found. During interrogation, Lamichhane initially denied the incident. He was released and re-arrested after he confessed to the incident. Police have also arrested Bishwakarma, the owner of the gold and silver shop, on the basis of his statement.

According to DSP Basnet, Lamichhane and Bohara are close friends. ‘Both are very close friends. Wherever they go, they even stay together overnight,’ he said. ‘On the day of the incident, both of them stayed in Bhoteodar all day. Both of them came to Gaikhure with a stick cut down. At Lamichhane’s request, they went to the forest. Then, due to financial problems, Lamichhane got greedy for gold and broke a tree and attacked Bohara. He robbed him of a chain and a ring.’

On the same day, he went to Chitwan and sold gold, of which Rs 644,000 was paid immediately and Rs 600,000 was paid in a few days, according to police.
