Locals have started removing the huts in Bahrakilo Bazaar, Gorkha Municipality-11, which were built by encroaching on forest land.

The Division Forest Office, Gorkha, had requested that the structures on the encroached land be removed by Asad 30. As per the instructions of the Forest Office, the locals themselves started removing the huts throughout the day on Tuesday.

Madan Mohan Shandilya, the head of the Division Forest Office, Gorkha, who will fence the area along with the removal of the Bahrakilo huts, said. "We have received information that the locals themselves have removed the Bahrakilo huts throughout the day today. If there are any remaining structures, we ask them to remove them tomorrow as well, otherwise if there are any remaining structures, the office will remove them tomorrow and completely clear them," he said. The office is also preparing to fence the area.

"We will start the conservation work by fencing the permanent ditches," he said, "The fencing work will probably start from tomorrow." He also said that the Bahrakilo huts have been removed in the first phase and now the structures built by encroaching on the forest area will be removed gradually.

On Asad 7, the Okhale Pakha Community Forest Users Group had given instructions to vacate the encroached area by setting a deadline of Asad 13 to remove the huts in Bahrakilo. Earlier, the locals had refused. Last Wednesday, the Division Forest Office, Gorkha again directed to remove the structures by Asad 30. Within the deadline given by the office, the locals themselves took the initiative to remove the structures in the encroached area.

He said that the forest area land was vacated as it was found that prohibited activities were being carried out in the national forest area as per the Forest Act, 2076 BS. There are more than 30 huts within the land of Okhale Pakha Community Forest Users Group in Bahrakilo Bazaar, the entrance to Barpak Road.

Since two decades ago, shops have been operating by constructing concrete structures on the land of Bahrakilo forest area. The concrete structures built by encroaching on the forest area in Bahrakilo Bazaar were also removed in 2073 BS. Although the concrete structures were removed at that time, shops have been operating in Bahrakilo by constructing new huts.
