The written examination for driving licenses in eastern Nawalparasi has begun to be conducted online. The Transport Management Office Kawasoti started administering the exam online for service seekers from Friday.
The online system was inaugurated on Friday by Govinda Bahadur Nepali, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management of Gandaki Province. Inaugurating the system, Minister Nepali stated that the government is committed to making the work of the Transport Management Office more effective by adopting digital methods.
The online system, said to be the first of its kind in Nepal, was developed by Pradeep Sapkota, Computer Officer at the Transport Management Office Kawasoti. In the online exam, examinees will know immediately whether they have passed or failed as soon as they complete the test.
How does the online exam work?
After filling out the form to obtain a driving license, the applicant receives a reference number for their application. The date for the written exam is then set accordingly. Upon arriving at the exam center designated by the Transport Office, the examinee will be provided with a mobile phone or tablet.
After registering on the device provided by the office, the examinee will select the category of driving license they wish to obtain. Then, after entering their reference number and photo ID, options for selecting questions and answers will be displayed. After selecting the answer to one question, the next question will automatically appear. Once all questions have been answered, the examinee must click on 'submit' to complete the process.
This system, which operates on an Android application, has adopted various precautions for security and reliability. It only works on devices specified by the Transport Office. Since there is a risk that service seekers might ask others or search for answers elsewhere, the application allows Transport Office staff to monitor audio and video after the exam begins. If anyone acts inappropriately, the office can immediately cancel the exam. To prevent others from taking the exam by placing a robot or another person's photo in front of the device, the office has stated that the system only works after detecting eye movement through the application.
