After the locals failed to remove the huts built in forest areas in Bahrakilo Bazaar, Gorkha Municipality-11, they have been instructed to vacate the encroached land within a seven-day deadline. The Division Forest Office, Gorkha, on Wednesday issued instructions to vacate the structures within a seven-day deadline. If the structures on the encroached land are not removed by Asad 30, they will be removed by using necessary force in coordination with the local administration and concerned bodies, said Madan Mohan Shandilya, head of the Division Forest Office, Gorkha.

The Okhale Pakha Community Forest Users Group had earlier ignored the instructions given by the locals on Asad 7 to vacate the encroached area, setting a deadline of Asad 30. On Wednesday, the Division Forest Office, Gorkha, again issued instructions to remove the structures by Asad 30. The office has also stated that if the structures are not removed, the persons and organizations that vacate the forest area and oppose the obstruction will be taken to the fullest extent of the law as per the Forest Act, 2076 BS.

Shandilya said that despite repeated requests to vacate the illegal structures within the community forest area, the structures have not been removed by the concerned persons. He said that as per the Forest Act, 2076 BS, a 7-day notice has been issued to vacate the forest area as prohibited activities were found to have been carried out in the national forest area.

More than 30 huts have been built within the land of the Okhale Pakha Community Forest Group in Bahrakilo Bazaar, the entrance to the Barpak Road. Since two decades ago, concrete structures have been constructed on the forest area of Bahrakilo Bazaar and shops have been operating. The concrete structures built encroaching on the forest area in Bahrakilo Bazaar were also removed in 2073 BS. Even though the concrete structures were removed at that time, shops have been operating in Bahrakilo by building huts again.

The Community Forest Users Committee has also urged the concerned individuals, families, organizations, or other stakeholders to immediately remove and vacate the temporary structures, materials, and encroachments in the forest area after encroaching on forest land and setting up a market.
