The contract for the Paundidhik-Sundarbazar-Kirinche section of the Mid-Hill (Pushpalal) Highway in Lamjung has been terminated. The Mid-Hill Highway Planning Office of the Road Department, Palungtar Gorkha, has issued a notice informing that the contract has been terminated with Kathmandu-based Kontek Pvt. Ltd., which was constructing the 8-kilometer section of the road. Project Chief Krishna Bahadur Khadka said that the last deadline expired on October 10, 2082 and the contractor has not been contacted since then.

‘This was a contract for upgrading and widening the road and blacktopping it. The deadline was extended three times. We were forced to terminate the contract after they did not contact us,’ he said. According to him, the Public Procurement Monitoring Office has recommended that Kontek Pvt. Ltd. be blacklisted. According to him, about 72 percent of the work on this road, which is also responsible for the construction of the main road of Sundarbazar, has been completed. The Planning Office has stated that the construction company has not completed the construction even after the revised deadline and has ignored repeated instructions.

The construction work was instructed to proceed on March 25. The last time the construction company was given a final order to complete the work on June 13, 2083. However, the company left the construction site without following the instructions and became uncontactable, said the Office Chief Khadka. According to him, it has been found that the work was stalled by being absent from the construction site for more than 200 days, the maximum period of compensation. Instead of following the instructions of the office, the company has committed illegal activities, interpreted as fraudulent, fraudulent and unprofessional conduct, which is considered a serious violation of the agreement.

According to the office, the agreement has been terminated as the company has not fulfilled its obligations under the contract in accordance with Section 499 of the Civil Code, 2074 and in accordance with the prevailing legal provisions. With the termination of the contract agreement, the Planning Office has stated that the post-contract evaluation and financial accounting reconciliation process has been initiated.

The office issued a notice on Thursday and asked the company to appear in the office within 15 days to finalize the financial accounts by measuring and evaluating the work completed so far. It has also been warned that if it does not appear within the specified period, the evaluation process will automatically be carried out as per the rules through the technical staff of the office.

After the Pushpalal Highway fell in Lamjung as per the government's decision on Bhadra 26, 2070, the technical team for the DPR survey had started its work in Lamjung from Falgun. Under this road plan, which was started as per the plan to construct a road in 5 sections only in Lamjung, if all the roads are constructed, 48.22 kilometers will be blacktopped.

Although work has been completed in some of the other 4 sections of Lamjung, the road has become dilapidated. Road construction work has not been able to proceed in one section in the Bhorletar area either.

Starting from Chiyobhanjyang in eastern Panchthar and ending at Jhulaghat in western Baitadi, this highway crosses 24 out of 39 hill districts. The ambitious project of national pride was targeted to be completed in the fiscal year 2074/075.
