The construction of the 'Guerilla Trail', which was aimed at including the gullies used by rural residents, has been delayed. Although the goal was to make the gullies leading to Dhorpatan through Kathekhola, Tarakhola and Tamankhola in Baglung standard and operate them, the construction of these routes has been stopped due to lack of federal budget.

The then Maoist fighters also used this trail many times during the People's War. The blueprint for the 'Guerilla Trail' prepared by Tarakhola Rural Municipality, which included the places where the war and clashes took place around this route, has been abandoned. The trail was drawn under the leadership of the rural municipality to make the gullies used at that time memorable.

The rural municipality has also prepared the DPR for the drawing. The municipality had named the drawing 'Guerilla Trekking Trail'. Last year, 'People's War Commander' Pushpa Kamal Dahal had also said that he would support this trekking route. But last year's budget did not include budget for this trekking route. Since the budget has not been approved in the current year as well, locals have commented that this trekking route may be in name only.

It will be more useful for those trekking up to Dhorpatan. The DPR has been prepared to include an area of about 63 km in the trekking route. The plan also mentions the management of homestays at various places and the creation of safe places where people can stay even if they are camping.

‘We make plans but do not work, that is why dissatisfaction among citizens has increased,’ said Amrit Gharti Magar of Tarakhola Rural Municipality-2, ‘History is disappearing due to the tendency to not invest in work to preserve original traditions and culture, and to believe in cement and modernity.’ He said that state bodies have failed to invest in places to preserve original traditions and history. Delay in construction of 'Guerrilla Trail' Martyrs Park

Tarakhola in Baglung was a heavily affected area during the armed conflict. 26 people from Tarakhola alone were martyred. 2 people are missing. The number of deaths in other incidents in Tarakhola was 102. Dhan Bahadur BK, the chairman of the rural municipality, said that a hiking trail is being built with the aim of collecting war relics along with commemorating that.

‘The commander of the People’s War, the Supreme Commander, had shown interest in this trail, now the situation has changed, there is no budget,’ said BK, ‘but this is more of an attractive trail for the entire Dhaulagiri region than a political one, so it may be seen as a necessity.’ The trail has been drawn from Panchakot in Baglung Municipality-6 to Sanbarat, from Beldhunga in Kathekhola Rural Municipality to Argalko Dhuri in Tarakhola, via Thulo Hile, Sole Danda in Tamankhola, Naudalle Pahad, and from Gurjaghat in Myagdi to Dhorpatan.

The municipality has also built an attractive Martyrs’ Park on Argalko Danda, the center of Tarakhola Rural Municipality, last year. From the Martyrs’ Park, this trail has been drawn towards Thami, Baranjadhuri in Myagdi, Tinchule in Tarakhola, Malarani, Deurali Nayaban, Chinar, Tinchule, and Dudelek. The trekking route will cover the section from Dudelek to Julfe, Gaighat Falls, Motimare, Majhakharka, Dhamja Deurali, Solighopte to Pun Rural Municipality Center. For that, the trekking route will also be accessible from Dhamja Deurali, Argal or Gaighat Falls. The highest point on this trekking route is Dudelek at an altitude of 3,600 meters, while the lower Gaighat Falls is at an altitude of 1,350 meters.

Ward No. 1, Metimare of Tarakhola Rural Municipality, was established as a Maoist training center since Kartik 2051. ‘Since Falgun 1, 2052, the Maoists had established a training center in Motimare to start the people’s war, and it was included in the trekking route considering it a historical site,’ said BK. Martyr Park can be viewed from the Kikalta Homestay near Shahid Park.

The Chinar tree within the trekking route was also a training center at the time. Local Amrit Ghartimagar recalls that this trekking route was drawn up in memory of the guerrilla war that took place at that time. After the construction of this trekking route, locals have arranged for tourists to stay, eat and visit through homestays in Tinchule and Thulo Hill. In Sole, the structures built due to the border dispute between Myagdi and Baglung have not been preserved. The then tourism office has built a guest house here.

Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Annapurna Himalayan ranges can be seen from this trekking route. In some sections of this trekking route, Tamankhola Rural Municipality had also searched for a possible shelter with the help of 'TAAN'. The people's representatives of the municipality have now backed down, saying that the local people's small budget will not be able to complete this work until the federal budget is received. The plan is to repair the old paths where there are existing paths and to build footpaths by filling in stones where there are none, but it will be difficult to complete the work without the federal budget, said Tamankhola Rural Municipality Chairman Joklal Budha.

It is estimated that it will cost Rs 160 million to complete the work in the form of paths only. There is an initial estimate that it will cost Rs 500 million to complete the footpath by filling in stones. They plan to complete this footpath only by sharing the federal government's budget. Tamankhola Rural Municipality has already built some structures at Sole Danda and Barah Tal by spending more than Rs 10 million, while Kathekhola has brought an attractive site and homestay into operation in Beldhunga.

If the work is done according to the plan, local mother groups will be activated in every place and they will look after the management of tourist accommodation. For that, the rural municipality will also provide training and orientation to the groups.

Homestay groups including Kikalta have also received tourist management training. ‘Once the mother group is involved in the management of the food and meals, they will also be involved in the income there,’ said BK, ‘If the budget for the infrastructure can be brought from the federal government, locals can work on other things.’ Organic food such as bhang, timur, beans, potatoes, radishes, red mushrooms, millet and phapar dhido produced in Tarakhola is planned to be served here.

Recently, local mother groups have been making millet and corn cell roti and jhilinga and serving them as snacks to domestic tourists. This trekking route has been designed in such a way that dozens of villages can be visited in one trip, visitors can observe sheepfolds and pastures, enjoy organic food and cultural diversity. Budha says that if this trekking route is made commercial, it can take those who want to go to Muktinath and go on an adventurous journey to Dhorpatan.

Tarakhola Rural Municipality had also done work including hiking trails in collaboration with the Gandaki Province Government, the Federal Government and Bharatpur Metropolitan City. BK also said that there is a plan to market many of Tarakhola's products in Chitwan and bring the tourist experience of Chitwan to Tarakhola. Tarakhola Rural Municipality had established sisterly relations with Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

During the armed conflict, locals under the Maoist leadership had opened this nearly 40 km road track. The road has been named Shahid Marg. This road is also currently abandoned due to lack of budget. The road from Kathekhola Rural Municipality-4 to Tarakhola Rural Municipality-1, 2 and 4 is very difficult. There are potholes. Although the track was opened during the conflict, the rural municipality's plan to level and blacktop it is abandoned due to lack of budget. Rural Municipality Chairman Dhan Bahadur BK said that despite repeated requests, the budget has not been received.

‘It is not possible to blacktop the road without the budget of the union or the province,’ said BK, ‘It is difficult to blacktop this road unless the leaders are interested.’ During the People’s War, the road from Rijalchowk to Bhat Khane Danda to Tarakhola was opened through public labor. The subsequent upgrade has been delayed. It has been 7 years since the DPR for blacktopping this road was made. Due to the inability to get the contract, locals have been forced to travel on this road for years at great risk. This road connects Tarakhola to Myagdi. In the 2075 BS DPR, it was estimated that all roads could be blacktopped at a cost of 1 billion.
