Among all the municipal and basic hospitals in Gandaki Province, Galkot Municipal Hospital in Baglung has come first in the Minimum Service Standard (MSS) evaluation. Galkot came first in the evaluation of the specified indicators by scoring 71 points, said the head of the hospital, Dr. Rajesh Poudel.

The hospital located in Galkot Municipality-5 has received this score in indicators including good governance and management, clinical service management and health institution support management.

A study of all hospitals was conducted under the organization of the Provincial Public Health, in coordination with the Provincial Public Health Center Pokhara and with the support of the Nick Simon Institute. Dev Prakash Ghimire, Inspector of the Provincial Public Health Office, Baglung, informed that Galkot came first in the study.

The good and improving aspects of the institution are kept in this study, especially for providing basic services. There is a system of giving each number based on the software indicator. Based on that, there is a system of first separation based on the scores and service delivery.

Established four years ago, this hospital has been treating 150 to 180 patients daily. In addition, dozens of services have been added to the hospital.

Since last Asoj, this hospital has also been operating a maternity service including operations. With the help of Galkot Samaj UK, a physiotherapy room has been operating, and the hospital also has a post-mortem service. After pregnant women started coming regularly for maternity services, a maternity waiting house has been built here. A three-room Kuruwa house has also been built so that service recipients and relatives do not have to look for a hotel.

The pregnant woman and her companion will be able to stay here before giving birth. There are cooking utensils and a stove along with the room. The building was built by Galkot Municipality and the Address Project, which is run here, with an investment of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 8 lakh, respectively. Apart from Galkot Nagar, patients from Tarakhola and Badigad Rural Municipality as well as Musikot Municipality in Gulmi also come to this hospital. Since patients undergoing surgery also come, the patient's nannies have been able to come and stay.

In the 8 months of the current year, 150 pregnant women have sought maternity services at the hospital, and 37 have undergone surgery. According to the hospital administration, 77 relatives of the pregnant women have returned home after spending at least one night here. Some have even stayed here for 7 days.

This waiting room was built with an investment of Rs 4 lakh and an additional investment of Rs 8 lakh by the municipality. The room has been designed to accommodate three families at once. Galkot Nagar Hospital, which had delivered 80 babies in the previous fiscal year, has seen more than 150 deliveries this year, said hospital chief Dr. Rajesh Poudel.
