Pokhara Metropolitan City has announced a budget of Rs 7.15 billion 25 million for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84. Of the total budget, 55.1 percent has been allocated for current expenses and 44.9 percent for capital expenses. Deputy Mayor Manju Devi Gurung presented the budget at the 19th Municipal Assembly on Friday.
The metropolis estimates that it will receive Rs 3.18 billion 16 million through financial transfer from the federal government for the implementation of the upcoming year's programs. Of this, Rs 2.61 billion 91 million will be conditional grants, Rs 55 million special grants, Rs 18.2 million complementary grants, and Rs 49.37 million equalization grants.
It is estimated that Rs 91 million 15 million 36 thousand will be financial transfer from the provincial government. This includes Rs 81 million 15 million 36 thousand equalization grants, Rs 60 million complementary grants, and Rs 40 million special grants.
The metropolis has set a target of raising Rs 3.87 billion 4.96 billion from internal and revenue sharing. Of this, Rs 343.47 billion will be collected from the federal government for revenue sharing, Rs 49.86 billion from Gandaki Province, Rs 1.31 billion 14 billion from local revenue, and Rs 2.48 billion 7.39 billion from internal sources.
In the budget presented by the metropolis, the share of current expenses related to administrative and service delivery has been kept higher than capital expenses. While 55.1 percent of the total budget is allocated for current expenses, only 44.9 percent has been allocated for development and capital programs.
Deputy Mayor Gurung said that the budget has been prepared based on the internal resources of the union, province, and metropolis to implement the objectives and priorities of the upcoming fiscal year. The budget will be passed after discussion by the municipal assembly.
