Pokhara Metropolitan City has prioritized public land conservation in the upcoming year's budget. The metropolis has allocated a budget of Rs 100 million in the upcoming fiscal year for the conservation and management of government, public, and encroached and vacant land within the metropolis.

Presenting a total annual budget of Rs 7.15 billion and 2.52 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 at the 19th Municipal Assembly held on Friday, Deputy Mayor Manju Devi Gurung put forward a special plan for public land conservation.

Of the total budget allocated, 55.1 percent has been allocated for current expenses and 44.9 percent for capital expenses. The metropolis has stated that this amount will be mobilized to remove encroachment on public land in areas such as the Firke Khola Corridor and Pokhara Bus Park, which are becoming particularly controversial and sensitive, and to effectively manage such land.

Along with public land conservation, the metropolis has focused a large portion of the budget on infrastructure, urban development and social sectors. Under which a total of Rs 2.8955 billion has been allocated for infrastructure, urban development and tourism infrastructure projects under the Urban Resilience and Livelihood Improvement Project. Similarly, a total of Rs 2.997 billion has been allocated for social development including health and education.

For the overall educational activities of education under the social sector, a total of Rs 1.8563 billion has been allocated from the metropolis' own resources and Rs 1.6353 billion from the federal conditional grant, while the budget statement states that a total of Rs 413.6 million will be mobilized from the federal conditional grant of Rs 261.6 million and from the internal income of the metropolis for the health sector.

The metropolis, which has allocated a budget of Rs 131.9 million with conditions to run various programs for economic development, has also managed the administrative and ward-level budgets in a balanced manner. A total of Rs 1.1 billion 5.9 billion has been allocated under the Office Expenditure Center of the Municipal Executive, along with a conditional budget, for the administrative and office operations and program operations of the Metropolitan City.

In order to facilitate the implementation of plans at the local level and to provide access to development to the grassroots level, a total of Rs 724 million has been allocated for all wards of the metropolis to cover the plans, programs and administrative expenses to be implemented by the ward offices.
