A landslide in Kharkhare, Besisahar Municipality-6, Lamjung has blocked the Besisahar-Chame road, the only road connecting the Himalayan district of Manang.

This road also connects Marsyangdi Rural Municipality in Lamjung. Passengers on their way to their destinations have been stranded after the road was blocked. Police have said that the landslide occurred due to heavy rains on Thursday night.

A large landslide occurred at 6:30 am on Friday on the road section, which is about 3.5 kilometers from Besisahar. Police Inspector Gyanendra Bahadur Chhetri of the District Police Office, Lamjung said that about 50 meters of the road were damaged due to the landslide.

Since the landslide, two machines of the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Project have been working to remove the landslide. Road Project Sub-Engineer Suman Adhikari said that excavators are working from Besisahar and backhoe loaders from northern Lamjung towards Manang to clear the landslide. “The landslide is being cleared. It is not expected to take this long,” he said, adding, “We are trying to clear it by noon.” The road was blocked for about two hours after a landslide occurred in this section on Thursday as well.

Police have stated that the Besisahar-Ghalegaun road has also been blocked due to the landslide. Police Inspector Chhetri said that the landslide occurred at Pumabhir in Besisahar-9.
