Marsyangdi Rural Municipality of Lamjung has announced that it will provide 50 units of electricity free to each household in its policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/084.
In the policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year presented by the rural municipality on Friday, it has proposed a system for consumers to receive up to 50 units of electricity for free per month under the ‘Hydropower Income, Investment in Bright Marsyangdi’ program. According to the proposed system, the rural municipality will bear the cost of electricity consumption up to 50 units. About 4,400 households in all 9 wards of the rural municipality will directly benefit from this scheme. Rural municipality chairman Arjun Gurung said that preparations are being made to propose a budget of about 5.5 million rupees for the implementation of this program.
The rural municipality has projected an income of about 40 million rupees from electricity royalty in the upcoming fiscal year. Chairman Gurung said that the program was brought with the aim of using the same income for the benefit of the local people and bringing the benefits of hydropower to the citizens.
Within Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, about 100 megawatts of electricity is being generated from 8 hydropower projects, including the 50 megawatt capacity Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ and the 30 megawatt Nyadi Hydropower Project. The 50 megawatt Marsyangdi Besi Hydropower Project, which will be connected to Besisahar Municipality, and the 250 megawatt capacity hydropower projects in Ngadikhola,
