Two donation boxes in the Gorkha Durbar area have collected Rs 355,820. The donation box at the Gorkha Kali Temple in the palace was opened on Wednesday in the presence of the District Administration Office, Treasury and Accounts Controller Office, security agencies and the Gorkha Durbar Care Office.
The offerings collected in the donation boxes since 2082 Magh have been counted, said the head priest of the Gorkha Kali Temple, Sharada Prasad Bhattarai.
The offerings collected in the donation boxes are being deposited in the bank account. ‘Earlier, we have deposited the donations of Rs 1,866,125 in the donation box in the bank,’ he said, ‘This time we will also deposit the collected offerings.’
He said that there was a problem in spending the collected offerings due to the lack of a procedure. He said that it would be easier if there was a procedure to spend the collected amount on special works such as festival worship, cleaning, etc.
Currently, the amount is being deposited in a bank account in the name of two employees of the Gorkha Durbar and a representative designated by the administration. ‘The Department of Archaeology said that the procedure would be made last year, but it has not come yet,’ Bhattarai said, ‘Even if there was any emergency work, we could not spend the money, if there had been a procedure, it could have been spent in inconvenient places.’
He said that he has received information that the Department of Archaeology of the Ministry of Culture has formed a task force to prepare the procedure. Since 2066 BS, two donation boxes have been kept in the Gorkha Kali Temple area and offerings have been collected.
