The physical progress of the four-lane bridge under construction in Tanahun under the Muglin-Pokhara road section has reached 85 percent. The financial progress of the bridge under construction over the Madi River connecting Byas Municipality-4 and 5 is said to be 81.2 percent.
Currently, the foundation work on both sides has been completed and the work on the network arch is underway, said Bishnu Prasad Pandey, engineer of the Muglin-Pokhara Road Project (Eastern Section). ‘This under-construction bridge has a total of 6 spans. Out of these, the work on the network arch is being done on the middle two spans,’ he said. ‘The concrete network arch on one side has been built. Now, the work of stressing it by applying load and relieving the support is underway, while the work on the other arch is also underway.’
An agreement was signed for the construction of the bridge in Shrawan 2079 BS. The work on the bridge was started with the aim of completing the construction within 3 years, but after the contract expired on Bhadra 21, the deadline was extended until Asad 19, 2083. He said that the construction contractor submitted a request for a second extension of the deadline as it was seen that the bridge work would not be completed within the extended deadline.
The bridge under construction will be 315 meters long and 23 meters wide. The bridge being built at a cost of Rs 1.21 billion including VAT will be a four-lane arch design, the longest on the Prithvi Highway. The current two-lane bridge over the river is 370 meters long. A new bridge is being built about 50 meters away from the same bridge.
