Naveen Tripathi has been elected as the president of the Gandaki Province of the National Independent Party (NISP).

Tripathi, who is also the outgoing general secretary, won in the first round, beating three other competitors in the voting held late on Friday night. Out of the total votes cast, Tripathi received 234 votes, while his closest rival and previous provincial president and member of the House of Representatives, Rajan Gautam, received only 182 votes.

Other candidates for the presidency are Madhav Prasad Kandel with 11 votes and Hari Bahadur Karki with 2 votes. Kandel was the candidate from Kaski Constituency No. 2 in the 2079 House of Representatives election, while Karki is an active figure in alternative politics and education. The voting process began only at 11 pm as the scheduled election schedule was affected due to efforts to reach a consensus among the aspirants.

A total of 51 candidates have filed their candidacies for the provincial working committee membership, of which 33 will be elected, including from various clusters. Of which, 28 candidates were nominated for regional provincial members, from which 1/1 person is elected for 18 constituencies of Gandaki.

Similarly, there is a provision to elect 15 out of 23 candidates for inclusive provincial members. Out of a total of 51 aspirants, 12 members have been elected unopposed. For regional members, Meena Sharma Acharya from Baglung-1, Manoj Gurung from Gorkha-1, Bal Bahadur Ghale from Gorkha-2, Vijay Parajuli from Lamjung, Tara Bahadur Karki from Myagdi and Suryamani Poudel from Tanahun-1 have been elected unopposed.

For inclusive provincial members, Sita Kumari Aryal, Krishna Kumari Adhikari (Anisha) and Rammaya Bastakoti have been elected unopposed from Khas Arya women. Similarly, Samiun Nisha from Muslim women, Geeta Bishwakarma from Dalit women and Yadunath Sigdel from Khas Arya cluster with disabilities have been elected unopposed.

After being elected unopposed, the remaining 39 candidates competed for 21 members. The provincial committee elected from this convention, which had a total of 780 representatives, will nominate 4 additional members later as per the statute.
