Annapurna Rural Municipality has launched a program to encourage the birth of a girl child.

The program has been launched to develop a positive attitude towards girls, promote gender equality, and reduce the problem of fetal killing by identifying the sex in the womb. Village Vice-Chairwoman Divakumari Tilija Pun said that a budget of five hundred thousand has been allocated in the current fiscal year. She said that through this program, an incentive amount of 12 thousand will be distributed to the parents of girls born since Shrawan 2082.

'The objective is to effectively implement the girl child birth incentive program and spread a positive message to the society towards girl child birth,' she said. 'According to the Girl Child Birth Incentive Program Operation Procedure, 2082, the program has been implemented through the allocated budget in 2082/83.'

It is stated that it is to develop a positive attitude towards girl child birth and to support the protection, education and empowerment of girls.

Chief Administrative Officer Kapil Pandey said that under the program, parents or guardians of girls born after 1st Shrawan 2082 should submit an application by 7th Ashar.
