Police have seized an Indian tourist's drone camera while he was flying an unmanned drone camera without permission in Mustang's Annapurna Protected Area.

The District Police Office, Mustang, has seized a drone camera belonging to an Indian tourist after he was found flying a drone camera without permission near the Syang Khola Bridge in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-3 of Mustang on Wednesday evening.

Police Inspector Santosh Basyal informed that a 240-gram drone belonging to DGL Company belonging to Shivam Kumar, a 26-year-old citizen of Baisakhi district of Bihar, India, was seized.

The drone seized has been sent to the Jomsom branch office of the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority for necessary action as per the procedures related to air flights, he said.

Drone camera flights must be registered with the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and since Mustang is an Annapurna Protected Area, prior written permission must be obtained from the District Administration Office and the ECAPMO. Similarly, the police say that the drone was flown at a distance that falls within the Jomsom Airport area standards, which is also a violation of that rule.

Individuals or organizations wishing to use drones for filming films and documentaries in Mustang will need to obtain official registration details of the drone and prior approval from the administration and ACAP.
