A well-equipped 15-bed hospital has come into operation in Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality-4, Hundiphant. The service began on Friday with the inauguration of the newly constructed 55-room hospital building. The hospital was inaugurated by Rural Municipality Chairman Bishnu Bhatta.

The construction of the municipal-level hospital building began on Asad 13, 2078 and was completed on Poush 28, 2082. The service was started by managing the necessary equipment and manpower for the hospital, which was built at a cost of 135.7 million 45 thousand rupees, said Subash Ale, Chief Administrative Officer of the Rural Municipality.

‘The service has started from today. We also conducted a health camp with the participation of specialist doctors,’ he said. According to him, 30 health workers have been managed in the hospital. ‘We have already brought some equipment. We have signed a contract for the purchase of equipment worth 17 million rupees, and they will arrive within this month,’ he said.

The hospital has been named ‘Shaheed Prem Dhakal Memorial Basic Hospital’ by the decision of the executive meeting. The hospital will provide dental, eye, obstetrics, family planning, nutrition, orthopedics and other services.

The Nick Simons Institute has also signed an agreement with the rural municipality to provide services with manpower for five years at the hospital built in Hundiphant. The institute will provide services with manpower at the hospital from 1st July 2006 to 30th Asad 2009. In addition, an agreement has been reached to provide medical supplies and necessary training to the hospital's manpower.

'We have managed a manpower of 30 people at the hospital. The rural municipality has managed 25 manpower, including a medical officer,' Ale said.

Since the hospital building has been constructed at a new location and the services are being operated, it is expected that all eight wards of Barpak Sulikot, Ward No. 2 and 3 of Ajirkot Rural Municipality, and Laprak-Gumda of Dharche Rural Municipality will benefit.

With the construction of a well-equipped hospital building in rural areas and the commencement of services, the locals are expected to receive easy health services. Previously, locals here were forced to travel to Gorkha Bazaar and Chitwan for emergency services.
