The family of the climber who successfully climbed Mount Manaslu for the first time has been honored.
On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Manaslu (Manaslu Platinum Jubilee Festival) in Chumanubri-1 Samagaun on Saturday, the families of Japanese citizen Toshio Imanishi and Nepali Orgen Sherpa were honored on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the successful ascent of 8,163-meter-high Manaslu.
Imanishi successfully climbed Mount Manaslu for the first time on May 9, 1956. On the same occasion, May 9 is celebrated as Manaslu Day every year.
On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Manaslu on Saturday, the chairman of Chumanubri Rural Municipality, Nima Lama, said. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey honored them.
His son Kubio Imanishi said that his father Toshio Imanishi's ascent of Mount Manaslu was a historic moment. '70 years ago, there was no infrastructure development like now, you had to come on foot from Kathmandu,' he said, 'At that time, the support you provided to my father who came to climb the mountain here was great, I am very happy to participate in this program today.'
On the occasion of the festival, locals of Samagaun who successfully climbed Mount Manaslu were also honored. Mingmar Tshiring Lama, Nangsal Chhoden Lama, Diki Lhamu Lama and Tshiring Diki Lama were honored. Tourism entrepreneurs Bir Bahadur Lama and Lakpa Dundup Lama, CAN Nepal and Help Nepal were also honored, informed Manoj Lamichhane, Chief Administrative Officer of Chumanubri Rural Municipality.
Statues of Toshio Imanishi and Urken Tshiring Sherpa have also been unveiled in Chumanubri-1 Samagaun. Addressing the festival, Chief Minister Pandey said that emphasis should be placed on creating alternative trekking routes in tourist trekking routes where road routes have been expanded, including Manaslu. ‘Efforts are being made to create alternative trekking routes where motorways have been expanded,’ he said. He also said that the upper areas of Manang, Mustang and Gorkha should be developed as specially protected areas and moved forward.
