The District Administration Office, Gorkha, has urged the removal of houses and structures built on public land within 15 days. The office has written to the Land Revenue Office and all 11 local levels, urging them to protect government and public land and send records of them.
To protect public land and control encroachment, it has been demanded to prepare digital records, strengthen the monitoring system, and provide details of government and public land for the work of removing illegal occupation.
Palungtar Municipality has also urged the immediate removal of structures built on public land. Issuing a public notice on Wednesday, the municipality said that it has received complaints that people have been encroaching on public land in some places.
The executive meeting and the meeting of the municipality's Public Land Conservation Committee on April 8 had decided to remove structures built without permission on public land, riverbed areas, government land, and private/private land within the municipality.
Based on the same decision, the municipality has urged the removal of such structures within 15 days. It has also been stated that if the structures are not removed due to disobedience, the municipality itself will remove them in accordance with the prevailing law. It has been warned that if the municipality has to remove them, the expenses incurred in the removal will be recovered from the concerned person as government dues.
According to Section 11 of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074, the notice also states that the protection of public, public, private and government lands and public buildings and physical infrastructure is the responsibility of the local government.
The ward office of Gorkha Municipality-10 has also started searching for government and public lands after public complaints of encroachment by various individuals or groups on public, public, private and government lands within the ward area. The ward office has requested the toll organization to provide details of public land, squares, roads, canals, water sources or government land within their toll, details of any encroachment on such land to build personal structures, houses, huts, walls or to use it for personal use, the estimated area of the encroached land and the name of the encroaching person.
