The construction of the health support room building at the Triveni checkpoint connecting Gandaki Province and the Indian border has been stalled.

Health workers have been working daily under tarpaulins on the paved road at the Triveni customs checkpoint for 7 years. Health checks for malaria, HIV and dengue infections of locals entering Nepal from India have been carried out by setting up a health desk.

There is a Nepal Police and Armed Police Force check post at the Triveni checkpoint. Under its auspices, a health support room has been operating under tarpaulins. Blood tests of those coming from India are conducted here daily from 6 am to 6 pm.

There is a circular from the Ministry of Health requiring mandatory health checks of those entering the border checkpoint. Health service employees who work 12 hours a day at the border checkpoint have been living under tarpaulins on the paved road since the rains. The employees are facing difficulties while working under tarpaulins on the pitched road. The sun is scorching and there are no toilets.

The Gandaki Health Ministry has allocated Rs 500,000 for the construction of a health support room building here. ‘We have allocated Rs 500,000 in the first phase to construct a building at the border post,’ said Laxman Bahadur Pandey, a member of the provincial assembly and Gandaki Province’s Health Minister. ‘The work has not been completed due to the local level’s lack of readiness for the construction of the building.’

The rural municipality is responsible for providing land for the construction of the building. ‘We have requested many times, but the land has not been available,’ says Keshav Chapagain, head of the District Health Office. ‘The employees have been suffering in the scorching sun for years due to the lack of a building.’ Chapagain said that a concrete building and toilets are essential for health workers to work confidently at the border post.

During the Corona period, about Rs 400,000 allocated for the construction of the building here was frozen after the work could not be completed.

Meanwhile, Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality Chairman Ghanashyam Giri claimed that Ward No. 7 Chairman Umesh Karki should work for the construction of the health support room building. Ward Chairman Karki said that only the village executive meeting can manage land for government offices.
