Pokhara Tourism Council and China's Sanchi Association for the Development of Carbon Neutral Technology have signed an agreement on Sunday to collaborate in promoting green tourism by reducing carbon emissions. A letter of agreement was exchanged in Pokhara to establish institutional relations to collaborate in the field of green and sustainable tourism. Council Chairman Taranath Pahari and Sanchi Association representative Wu Zhou exchanged the letter of agreement.

The collaboration between the two organizations includes topics such as linking China's mature experience in carbon neutrality and green development with the local conditions of Pokhara, developing low-carbon hotels and tourism infrastructure, certifying and adding value to green agricultural products, establishing a Chinese spice shop in Pokhara, and arranging regular contact between the two organizations. Accepting all these proposals, the two organizations have committed to preparing a detailed action plan in the future and entering into a final agreement. This partnership, established on the basis of a common vision of carbon neutrality, sustainable tourism, and environmentally friendly development, is expected to further strengthen Pokhara on the international green tourism map.

Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Taranath Pahari described the partnership as a new chapter in Pokhara's tourism development. 'This collaboration with the Sanchi Association embodies our dream of developing Pokhara as a world-class sustainable tourism destination,' he said. 'China's mature experience and technology in the field of carbon neutrality and eco-friendly tourism will be invaluable to Pokhara.'

Council Secretary-General Jeevanraj Sapkota said that the establishment of this relationship was the successful culmination of long discussions and coordination between the two organizations. 'This is not just an exchange of letters, it is the foundation of Pokhara's green future,' he said. 'We will now start the real work by making a concrete action plan.'

Sanchi Association representative Wu Chau said that Pokhara has been respected as a tourism gem of Nepal. ‘China and Nepal share a common vision of tackling climate change and promoting green development,’ he said. ‘We are excited to bring China’s successful technologies and experiences here in a way that suits the local environment of Pokhara.’

According to him, the Sanchi Association, established in 2024, has more than 150 member organizations. The association, which includes leading industries and scientific research institutions in the fields of energy, environmental protection, and high-end manufacturing, has experience in carbon neutrality policy research, green finance, and international exchanges.

Maniraj Lamichhane, Head of the Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province Office Pokhara, welcomed the partnership, saying it is in line with Nepal’s green tourism policy. He added, ‘This partnership will provide solid support to the concept of carbon neutral tourism. Bringing in technology and investment from international organizations is our common priority.’
