Pokhara Metropolitan City has directed to remove unauthorized physical structures constructed on public, public and vacant land within the city area within 35 days. The metropolis has issued a notice and given a final warning to vacate the land occupied on the basis of access.
This notice has been issued in accordance with the decision of the Metropolitan Executive on April 3. The metropolis has stated that it has taken this step after receiving public complaints that various individuals and organizations have been encroaching on public land for a long time to operate offices, build buildings and rent them out, and make them private by enclosing walls.
'In solidarity with the protection of public land, the structures constructed so far are notified to be vacated or removed within 35 days from the date of publication of the notice,' the notice issued by the metropolis on April 4 states.
According to the metropolis, it has been found that commercial and institutional structures have been constructed by exploiting public property based on access in various places. If the structures are not removed within the specified time limit, the metropolis itself will remove them according to legal procedures and recover the costs from the concerned parties.
The metropolis has also urged all city residents to cooperate in the protection and conservation of public property. Recently, a campaign has been underway in Pokhara to clear encroached areas on public land and riverbanks, including Fewa Lake.
