An open Thado Bhaka competition is scheduled to be held in Ranipokhari, Gorkha Municipality-6 on April 11 and 12. The competition is organized by the Thado Bhaka Preservation and Promotion Committee with the aim of introducing the original Thado Bhaka to the national level. Prithvi Gurung, Chairman of the Thado Bhaka Preservation and Promotion Committee, informed that more than 15 teams from Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahun and Kaski will participate in the two-day competition. It was informed at a press conference held on Sunday that the competition will help honor the elders and encourage new talents. The first team in the competition will receive a cash prize of 80,000, the second 50,000, the third 30,000 and the best 10,000. Gurung also informed that each team will have 6 people.
Thado Bhaka is a style of original folk music prevalent in the villages of the hilly regions of Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Tanahun and other districts of Gandaki Province. Thado Bhaka vividly expresses the lifestyle, culture, love, laughter and sorrow, nature and various aspects of village life of Nepali society.
Thado Bhaka encompasses various aspects of fairs, Deurali Bhanjyang, forest festivals, farms, emotional relationships of young people and social relationships. The competition is expected to inspire the new generation of talented artists to learn, sing and move forward in Thado Bhaka.
