The concrete bridge built on the Arun River in eastern Nawalparasi under the ongoing expansion of the Mahendra Highway has been operational since Friday.

After about three years of construction, the construction of the concrete bridge has been completed and traffic has been operating since Friday. According to Chudaraj Dhakal, Chief Engineer of the Road Projects Directorate, the construction of the 220-meter-long bridge was completed on Thursday.

Dhakal said that vehicles started plying on this bridge from Friday afternoon after the construction work was completed on Thursday. Earlier, traffic was operated from an iron bridge built here 52 years ago. A new one has been built next to the same bridge.

This bridge has been constructed under the Butwal-Narayangadh road. The Chinese contractor company China State Engineering Corporation is dividing the Butwal-Narayangadh road into eastern and western sections. Now the existing steel bridge will be removed and another concrete bridge will be constructed at that place. The work of the bridge to be built now will not be done under the Butwal-Narayangadh road plan, but by the Bridge Division of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

There are 32 bridges, including medium and long, in the eastern section of the Butwal-Narayangadh road section under construction. Of these, 31 bridges have been constructed as of Friday afternoon. All of them have started operating for traffic.

There are 12 long bridges in eastern Nawalparasi. Bridges that are more than 20 meters long are called major bridges. All of them have been completed and traffic is being operated.  There are 22 minor bridges in this section. Bridges smaller than 20 meters and longer than 10 meters are called minor bridges.

Only in the Daunne section, 4 long and small bridges are under construction. The Daunne section where the bridge is being constructed is located on the western section of the Butwal-Narayangadh road.
