Farmers in eastern Nawalparasi have started selling ginger dried. Since the price of selling raw ginger is low, they have started drying the ginger and then selling it.
Ginger is being cultivated commercially in the hilly areas of Hupsekot, Boudikali, and Bulingtar rural municipalities of the district. The price of raw ginger is 150 to 200 rupees per bushel and after drying it is sold for 500 to 700 rupees per bushel, said Buddhi Bahadur Saru, a farmer from Bulingtar-4.
Three years ago, ginger was cultivated on 1,500 hectares, but now ginger is cultivated on only 950 hectares.
According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center, the district generates more than 300 million rupees in ginger and dried ginger every year. Recently, there has been a problem due to the lack of manpower to dry (dry) ginger. Those who cannot make it dry have been selling it raw.
