Students of Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus here have set up a scholarship fund from the money collected by playing Deusi Bhailo. After three years of effort, they have collected one crore rupees and named it 'Scholarship Revolving Fund'. The students say that this fund was established to provide scholarships to underprivileged students to create an environment for studying.
The campaign to create a revolving fund, which started with Deusi Bhailo on Tihar in 2080 under the leadership of Sudip Sagar Kandel, the president of the Independent Students' Union elected in 2079, has now been completed. On Tuesday, Kandel handed over the amount of this fund to the campus board of directors in the presence of Khadga Bahadur KC, Rector of Tribhuvan University.
Kandel said that prominent people of the society, alumni, and locals have participated in the Deusi Bhailo campaign started by the Independent Students' Union. At a program organized on Tuesday, Kandel handed over Rs 10 million 941 thousand 651 for the 'Scholarship Fund' to the Chairman of the Campus Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Din Bahadur Thapa, and the Campus Head, Associate Professor Sudarshan Silwal.
This fund will help underprivileged students who want to study technical subjects, especially at the campus. Science, BBA and BCIT subjects are taught at the undergraduate level at Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus. In addition, MBS, sociology, Nepali, English and education are taught at the postgraduate level in the humanities. 'We had started the fund so that students who want to study from rural areas would not face financial obstacles, and now it has been completed,' said the then SBU Treasurer Shristi Acharya, 'This fund will work in the interest of general students.' Hostels have also been arranged for students coming from outside the district headquarters based on their needs. This fund is said to support the cost of education.
Kandel-led Swavi had also implemented a quarterly examination system to improve the quality of students' education. It was because of this system that Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus was able to become the best in Nepal for BBA. 'Swavi's activism has made it much easier to improve the quality of the campus,' said former campus chief Ram Prasad Upadhyay, 'This fund has been like a boon for those who want to study.' Swavi and the campus administration have also made a procedure to support those who have money to go to urban areas, and those who cannot study at the district level due to financial constraints from the interest of the fund. Silwal said that in the coming days, arrangements will be made to select students according to the procedure and provide scholarships.
Although it is a part of Tribhuvan University, science, BBA, BCIT subjects here have been run under the leadership of locals. The campus is achieving success due to technical subjects. The campus has hired 35 part-time teachers for the privately run faculties. According to the campus administration, 60 percent of the curriculum load is run by part-time and contract teachers.
The campus has received the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) approval since last year. Upadhyay informed that the QAA certificate is more useful for employment in Nepal and the international market. Asmin Sheikh, the current president of the Independent Students' Union, said that students eligible for scholarships from this fund will be selected impartially. She is also committed to working for the welfare of students so that the efforts made by the leaders do not go to waste.
Bishnu Prasad Chapagain, a teacher in the Mathematics Department of the campus, said that this fund is a work worthy of the pride of the Kandel-led Independent Students' Union. He said that if the administration and students of all campuses make similar efforts, it will help in improving the quality of TU.
