In Lamjung, a ban has been imposed on the import of chickens and poultry products from outside the district to prevent the introduction of bird flu, which affects chickens and poultry products.

The meeting of the Bird Flu Control Committee held after discussions with poultry entrepreneurs has banned the import of chickens and poultry products from Wednesday.

The meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the committee chairman and Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Khanal has banned the transportation of chicken meat, live chickens and eggs until further notice.

According to Dr. Sunil Neupane, Chief of the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Office, the decision has been taken to prevent the introduction of this disease in the district, citing the recent outbreak of bird flu in Chitwan along with various other parts of the country.

In the case of chicken chicks, it has been decided that they can be transported only after obtaining a veterinary certificate issued by a registered veterinarian as per the Animal Transport Standards, 2064 BS, and the District Police Office has decided to make necessary arrangements for its intensive monitoring. For this, the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Office will arrange a technical team in coordination with the Animal Services Branch of the concerned municipality to facilitate as needed.

It has been decided to publish and broadcast information about the ban on movement and awareness about bird flu through the media to inform the concerned stakeholders on this issue. Dr. Neupane informed.

It has been decided to conduct regular monitoring by the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Office for early identification to prevent the entry of bird flu.

Bird flu is considered a contagious viral fatal disease that affects birds including chickens, ducks. Veterinarians say that the disease can spread through direct contact with infected birds, waste or infected materials and in rare cases, it can also be transmitted to humans.

Veterinarians suggest avoiding direct contact with sick or dead chickens, maintaining cleanliness in the poultry farm, immediately reporting any suspicious cases to the office, and consuming only properly cooked poultry products. The Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Office has urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and fully comply with the prescribed rules.
