One of the three people injured in an axe attack in Sandikhola, Dordi Rural Municipality-5, Lamjung, has died on Wednesday morning.

Around 5:30 am on Wednesday, 45-year-old Wakan Gurung attacked three people, including his wife, with an axe in his own house.

According to DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet, Chief of the District Police Office, Lamjung, 72-year-old Garv Lal Gurung, who was seriously injured in the axe attack, died on Friday morning during treatment.

Garv Lal was sent back to the New Chitwan Medical College in Bharatpur after he could not be treated at the Provincial Hospital, Lamjung, and was sent back. DSP Basnet informed that he died during treatment at the provincial hospital.

His sister-in-law's son, 10-year-old Anmol Gurung, who was injured in the axe attack by Wakan, is being treated at the New Chitwan Medical College. Police have stated that Wakan's wife, 45-year-old Chijmaya Gurung, is being treated at the Provincial Hospital, Lamjung. Chijmaya has injuries on her left hand and stomach, and Anmol has injuries on her head.

According to the police, Anmol was living with the Gurung couple. Both of them are former teachers. Garvlal was living in their house doing casual work. According to the police, during a domestic dispute, Wakan attacked his wife with an axe and also attacked Anmol who came to her rescue with an axe. Later, Garvlal was also attacked.

Quoting locals, the police said that Wakan had been ill for a few months and had mental problems. Local sources said that there were disputes at home over whether to perform puja for him or not.

The police arrested Wakan on Wednesday and have started an investigation by extending his remand by 5 days from the district court.
