Three people, including their wife, were seriously injured in an axe attack in Sandikhola, Dordi Rural Municipality-5, Lamjung.

45-year-old Wakan Gurung attacked his wife with an axe in his own house at 5:30 am on Wednesday. According to DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet, Chief of the District Police Office, Lamjung, 45-year-old Chijmaya Gurung, her sister-in-law's son Anmol Gurung, 10, and neighbor Garv Lal Gurung, 72, were injured in Gurung's attack. Chijmaya suffered serious injuries to her stomach and left hand, and two others suffered serious injuries to their heads. The police said that the condition of all three is critical.

Anmol had been living with them, while Garv Lal had also been living in the same house for the past few days.

After the incident, a team deployed from Police Post Shreemanjang under the command of Police Constable Pradeep Kumal immediately sent the injured to the Provincial Hospital in Lamjung. Chijmaya is being treated at the provincial hospital in Besisahar, while the other two have been taken to Chitwan Medical College for further treatment, police said.

Police have taken Gurung, who was involved in the incident, under control along with an axe. The incident site is located about 5 kilometers west of the police post Shreemanjang and the rural municipality center Nauthar Shera.

According to the police, the wife was attacked during a domestic dispute and Anmol and Garv Lal, who came to her rescue, were also attacked, according to preliminary investigations.

Police suspect that Gurung has been ill for a few months and may have mental problems. Local sources have said that there have been disputes at home over whether to perform puja for the sick or not.

Police have extended the remand of Wakan for five days and are investigating, police said. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
