The economic data collection will be carried out from April 20 to June 21 with the aim of helping the country's policy formulation by collecting accurate data. This census is being conducted to prepare accurate details of the production, import and export of commercial establishments and to derive the GDP data. This is the second edition of the census, which was first started in 2075 BS.
Economic Census Officer Chandrakant Subedi informed that this work is being done by establishing an Economic Census Secretariat at the District Statistics Office and hiring 31 new enumerators and 5 supervisors. 'This census can help in finding out the GDP of the country, and on that basis it will help in the formulation of future economic policies,' Subedi said, 'The employment we get from the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, and the data of dependent families will also be visible in this census.'
This data will show the status of businesses, agricultural production, income and expenditure, and partial and long-term employment in particular. In the data collected in 2075 BS, only 8,900 registered firms and establishments were counted in Baglung. At that time, it was said that the complete data was not available because about 50 percent of businesses were not registered.
He said that since the local government came into power in the same year, the process of registering small and large businesses has been going on, but now this data will gradually come closer to the truth. Although there is still doubt that this detail will be available in full, this data will be kept confidential for state tax collection and to maintain business confidentiality. The Nepal government has started the work of economic census by making a policy.
While the national census is held every 10 years, this is the second economic census after 2075 BS. To make this census effective, an Economic Census Supervision Committee has been formed at the district level under the coordination of the Chief District Officer, a Municipal Supervision Committee under the coordination of the concerned Municipal Chief, and an Implementation Committee at the ward level.
The census conducted using all these bodies and mechanisms will reveal the true details of the state. The Government of Nepal has appointed a contract employee for four months for this task. The government has also made arrangements to provide the code number if the business establishment wants to fill in its details itself.
Based on personal privacy, Subedi informed that the government has also made legal arrangements so that this data cannot be used as evidence anywhere.
