A committee has been formed to investigate the microbus accident that occurred on Saturday in Kantar, Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-3, on the Manakamana-Ambukhaireni road section. The Gandaki Provincial Police Office has formed a 5-member committee under the coordination of Provincial Traffic Police Chief Dan Bahadur Thapa. The investigation committee will prepare a report on the cause of the accident, informed District Police Chief Gorkha SP Bharat Bahadur BK. Seven people died in an electric microbus with registration number 1-006 Kha 8430 on Saturday evening while returning from visiting the Manakamana temple. Nine people were injured in the accident. All seven deceased are Indian citizens. Police have stated that 58-year-old Muthu Kumar and Anamlik, 59-year-old Meenakshi, 53-year-old Sivagami, 57-year-old Vijayal, 58-year-old Mina and 60-year-old Tamilarashi died. The postmortem of the deceased was conducted at the Provincial Hospital, Gorkha on Sunday evening. SP BK said that after the postmortem, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives through the Indian Embassy.
Police have initially suspected that the microbus accident may have occurred due to a brake problem on the downhill road. All the passengers in the microbus, except the driver and co-driver, were Indian citizens. The nine injured in the accident were referred to the Old Medical College on Saturday for further treatment after treatment at Abukhaireni Hospital.
