Voter education has not been effective, and the number of invalid votes has increased. In Gorkha, which has two constituencies, 4,276 votes have been invalidated in the proportional representation and 5,228 votes have been invalidated in the direct representation.
In Gorkha-1, which has 120,525 voters, 63,609 votes were cast in the direct representation. Of the 120,525 voters, 61,390 votes were valid and 2,219 votes were invalidated.
Similarly, in Gorkha-2, which has 18,533 voters, 57,156 votes were cast in the direct representation. In Gorkha-2, 3,09 votes were invalidated in the direct representation. The Election Office has stated that 54,147 votes were valid.
In Gorkha-1, 64,389 votes were cast in the proportional representation. Of these, 62,713 votes were valid and 1,677 votes were invalid. Similarly, 2,599 votes were invalid in Gorkha-2 in the proportional representation. The office has stated that 55,325 votes were valid out of 57,924 votes cast.
80 percent of the invalid votes were cast with two or more symbols, said Ravilal Subedi, Information Officer of the Election Office, Gorkha. ‘We found that 3 percent of the invalid votes were cast with thumbprints, two percent were cast with two spaces,’ he said, ‘The rest were invalid because the swastika was not legible or was left blank.’
