Sudhan Gurung of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has been elected from Gorkha-1 in the House of Representatives election. Rai won by defeating Prem Kumar Khatri of the Nepali Congress (NC) by 14,498 votes. Gurung got 29,896 votes while Khatri got 15,398 votes. Hariraj Adhikari of the Nepali Congress (NCP) came in third with 11,124 votes and Ramchandra Lamichhane of the Nepali Congress (UML) came in fourth with 3,732 votes, according to the Election Commission.
In Gorkha-1, the then Maoists and the Nepali Congress had been winning alternately in the 2064 elections. The Maoists had won in 2064, 2070 and 2074, and the Nepali Congress had won in the 2079 elections.
