After the measles cases increased in the village for two weeks, schools in the village of Dhorpatan Municipality have been given a three-day holiday. The municipality has announced that the schools, which were closed until Sunday due to the election, will remain closed until Wednesday.

Measles infection has spread in Dhorpatan Municipality-7, 8 and 9 since last week. Municipal Education Officer and Acting Chief Administrative Officer Pushpak Dahal has published a notice stating that the schools will remain closed until Wednesday.

More than 50 children in this village have been infected with measles. The holiday has been given from Falgun 25 to 27 to prevent the spread of the infection. While the campaign to eradicate measles and rubella from the country by 2026 is underway, measles has been detected in most of the children in Dhorpatan Municipality-7, 8 and 9.

A team of doctors from the World Health Organization reached Dhorpatan on Sunday after the measles infection spread. ‘After increasing concern about the public health problem, the World Health Organization, along with a team from the Federal Ministry of Health and Gandaki Province Health Minister Krishna Pathak, have reached Dhorpatan,’ said Dev Prakash Ghimire, Senior Tuberculosis Inspector at the Provincial Public Health Office, Baglung. ‘Isolation has also been set up for treatment after conducting all kinds of studies and research.’

Along with doctors from Dhaulagiri Hospital and Chief of the Public Health Office, Praveen Sharma, have also reached the village and treated the patients. Similarly, isolation has also been added to Burtiwang Hospital in Dhorpatan Municipality. The Gandaki Province government has provided assistance for the construction of 50 beds for isolation. ‘After keeping the patient in isolation and treating him, there is no spread of the infection elsewhere,’ said Sharma. ‘Along with the treatment of the patient, work is also being done to find the cause of the infection.’ Most of the measles infected are in the age group of 10 to 20 years. Most of them are school students. Bobang village was lagging behind in education and health.
