A wire mesh has been installed in Lamjung keeping in mind the security of the counting site.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has stated that special security arrangements have been made to make the counting of votes at the District Coordination Committee meeting hall in Besisahar, the district headquarters, safe, orderly and transparent.
CCTV cameras have been installed at two places, at the main gate and the stage, for the security of the counting site. According to Chief Electoral Officer Shishir Raj Dhakal, since the counting of votes is a very sensitive process, the wire mesh has been installed with high priority to prevent any kind of unwanted activity, dispute or interference.
A wire mesh has been installed in half of the stage of the meeting hall from the entrance door to the entrance. The same wire mesh has been rotated and taken to the main door, which has clearly separated the counting area from external traffic. A separate place has been prepared for counting votes by laying mats inside the meeting hall, where arrangements have been made for counting votes simultaneously in three places.
Chairs have been arranged outside the counting center for candidates, candidate representatives and relevant stakeholders to sit. This has created an environment that will make it easier for them to observe the counting process but will not allow them to directly interfere.
Similarly, arrangements have been made to keep ballot boxes in two rooms of the Chief Electoral Officer's office. Two CCTV cameras have been installed in both rooms for security. The regular work of the Chief Electoral Officer's office will be conducted from near the stage of the assembly hall, which will make it easier to take necessary coordination and decisions from the counting center.
According to Dhakal, the purpose of installing the wire mesh is to ensure the physical security of ballot papers and ballot boxes, control unnecessary crowds, prevent possible disputes and jostling, provide a safe environment for the staff involved in the counting, and maintain the trust of all parties in the overall counting. He said that since the counting of votes is the most sensitive stage of the election, even a small weakness can lead to a big dispute, so the security arrangements have been strengthened.
According to the Election Office, there will be a continuous presence of security forces, CCTV camera surveillance, and barbed wire fencing from the start of the vote counting until the final results are announced.
